A fun and creative introduction to this simple cut and paste medium! You will be shown a range of techniques and approaches to making exciting image juxtapositions. Each day we will focus on a new technique or theme, gathering inspiration from a wide range of artists and designers. By the end of the week you will have a mini portfolio of artwork to take home with you. This course is perfect for those who are studying Fine Art or Art and Design at school or college. Please raid your local charity shops, boot sales and lofts for materials to be incorporated into your artwork!
An introduction to materials and processes with opportunity to explore a broad range of artist and designers who use collage in their work.
A collection of visual themes: portraiture; landscape; satirical; surreal; abstract and 3D.
How to build a collage composition: image selection; arrangement; placement; scale; texture and colour.
Combining techniques and mediums: how to use collage with other art and design materials and media.
Producing and presenting a final piece.
A comprehensive range of artist books and resources will be provided to help you gather inspiration throughout the week.
Please make sure that you come wearing some old clothes!
Working with others to make a collaborative collage.
Try to raid your local charity shop, loft, or car boot sale to find any old magazines, newspapers, textured papers, wallpapers etc. to use in our sessions. There will be a good range of basic art and design materials available for this course, but if you have any particular preferences to materials then please bring them along.
