Fencing for Improvers
|Tutors: Alan Knowles|
|Weeks: 2 and 4|
This course is great for building on what you have already learned on the previous Summer School course, at school or your local club. In the age of chivalry, duelling was favoured as a method of settling matters of honour due to its grace and simplicity. These remain two of the most attractive aspects of this Olympic sport today. It's also very rewarding, developing all round fitness, flexibility of movement, stamina, mental agility, coordination, balance and self-confidence. Above all, it's great fun!
Marlborough has a strong history of sword fighting and duelling. The college was a meeting place for gentlemen to settle affairs of honour. During the 19th century Marlborough and Swindon were renowned for their backswordsmen boasting a number of national champions.
The improvers course is designed for someone who already fences or has previously done the beginners course.
The training is specific to each individual and their requirements as all lessons are differentiated.
All students should bring training shoes, tracksuit bottoms and a t-shirt.
In addition you should bring a suitable drink and hand towel.
